Academics & Career; Building Confidence as a Learner

The connections that link good adjustment in early childhood and adult life are complex, but we KNOW that there are habits that can positively influence any child. Sleep, nutrition, daily doses of reading and lots of love are key ingredients for little learners. Giving attention to academics and sharing expectations for continued learning after high school can shape a child's self concept and positive academic identity.

Connecting Academics to the Present and Future

Students are encouraged to think about their dreams and talents. We are more aware than ever that these traits are not fixed, meaning we expect changes over time. However, making a connection between academics and career can lay the foundations for a student's ongoing interest and investment in school.

Our goal is that every student who attends school in Windsor will graduate with a readiness for substantial options for post-secondary education and career pathways.

O'net program "my next move"

O'net is sponsored through the U.S. Department of Labor and provides numerous free resources to workers of all ages. Our students access both pencil and paper and online interest inventories. This link is more appropriate for our older middle school, rather than elementary aged students. Parents may also find it worth checking out, it is the largest database of occupations, salary, and job requirements.

LEARNING, EARNING & LIVING

Poster created by small group of 7th graders thinking about long term goals.

Students benefit from the opportunity to reflect on their beliefs, values and goals. Taking the time to shift focus can help us make connections between the present and the future. Perspective helps us all make more informed choices and enjoy increased motivation.
